Market time

I pay myself once a month so by the end of the month the fridge is kind of bare.  For budgeting I do my big grocery shopping at the beginning of the month and go pick up fresh fruits and vegetables when I need them.  So, today was the big shopping trip.  I needed to stock up on frozen vegetables and I was out of almond “milk”.  But, then I realized that not only was the almond “milk” on sale but protein bars were on sale as well.  I got 17 flipping protein bars. Now, those bars will last me all of October and probably a bit of November (if I don’t get lazy).  But, still at $1+ a pop it’s irritating when they ring up.

The almond “milk” was a good price so I bought five cartons instead of the two I planned on (but they’ll last for a long time on the shelf so I’m not worried — seriously, they were 1/3 off what I usually pay).  I bought my first fake meat item, it looked kind of good so we’ll see. Plus, the cereal I really like was on sale as well…I have some at home but the price was really good so I got two boxes.  I’ll eat it so it will be nice to have it there and know I got it on sale.  :)

I did pretty good picking food, especially considering I was HUNGRY.  Stupid, I know, why go to the market hungry???  But, I had to go to the bank and knew if I didn’t do it when I was there I wouldn’t do it. Only a couple impulse buys — a cute little mini hummus with pretzel chips.  Why?  I don’t know it looked cute.  Stupid, but I’ll eat it.  I even got more pretzel chips to make my own hummus snack pack.

Want to know the really stupid thing, I had $100 worth of groceries in my car and I stopped and picked up take out.  :( I was hungry and I wanted a falafel pita.  I also didn’t feel like cooking when I got home so, I picked up a pita.  It tasted great so I’m happy.

Funky mood wise, I’m actually feeling a bit better.  Not great, but a bit better.

I’ve been thinking about  my oldest nephew’s Christmas/birthday present.  I already planned what I was getting him but I’m rethinking it.  My brother and sister-in-law get gold passes for the local amusement park.  The gold pass holder can bring two guests with them with their pass.  I’m too cheap to pay to go to the park so I thought about getting me a pass this year.  But, then I thought maybe I’d get my nephew the pass (he’ll be 6) and he can bring me or him mom.  He’ll also be able to go with my sister-in-law and her mom next summer.  It’s more than I would spend on him for the holidays (his birthday is two weeks after Christmas) but it would be used a lot and would benefit more than just him (as in me too) so I might.  Just hadn’t budgeted for that expene this month — but it’s quite a bit cheaper through October 31.

Then I started thinking about amusement parks.  I’ve only been to this one once.  I always find excuses why I don’t want to or can’t go when I’m invited.  I thought about the reason I stay away from amusement parks.  A few years back I went to one with the neighbor kids and was asked to get off a ride because the safety bar didn’t fit.  Now, in my defense, I didn’t know what the kid was saying when he was trying to latch it so I am 99% sure I was leaning forward and that was part of the problem.  But, it was one of the most humiliating things I’ve ever experienced.  So, I’ve done my best to stay away from amusement parks and have been very careful about what rides I’ll go on when I am at one.

Heck, the one and only time I went to the one here I came up with a great excuse as to why I couldn’t go with the kids I was chaperoning on the one ride. But really, I was afraid I wouldn’t fit.

So, we’ll see. Just some random ramblings of mine.

Welcome to my world.

I’ve definitely done that before….bought a bunch of groceries and then stopped for fast food. :(

That’s great that you can buy so many protein bars and have them last that long. I have to be very careful when I buy them.

I went shopping today too. My goal is to eat the stuff that spoils the earliest, the fastest. Like eat the veggies, fruit, cottage cheese, and yogurt before the cereal and frozen dinners. ;-) I’ve been known to do it the opposite before and waste a bunch.

2 thoughts today. A. I like your random ramblings. And 2. I almost ALWAYS get take out on the way home from the grocery. Almost ALWAYS. Like I’m fueling up to get through the unloading and putting away or something. Ugh.
