It’s fair time!

The county fair started today.  I wasn’t planning on going today but my brother and sister-in-law were given three free tickets for today and my niece and nephew both get in for free.  So, guess who got a free pass to the fair.  :)

I have to admit, I like fair food.  I like funnel cakes. I like huckleberry ice cream.  I just like fair food.  Three years ago I came home from the fair sick to my stomach from the food I ate.  Today, I came home thirsty but only because I shared my water with my brother because he was so thirsty and I couldn’t find anywhere to fill up the bottle again.  I wasn’t hungry but I also didn’t feel in the least bit unhappy with what I ate.  They wanted to eat at a BBQ place — I had baked beans and coleslaw.  Not a prize winning dinner but really not that bad.

I will probably go back later this week with another friend (I told her I’d go and since I didn’t have to pay this time I’ll go again).  Next time, though, I’m going to plan my day so I can have a funnel cake — probably split it with her.  Because, I like funnel cakes!  I don’t care that there’s a gazzilion calories, I like them and I eat one once a year (if that) so it’s not going to kill me.  :)

I also walked about a bazzillion miles today.  My feet hurt to prove it (I think I have a blister or two as well).  Because I hadn’t planned on going to the fair I didn’t wear shoes that I would have normally worn.  Thus, the sore feet. I walked at a snails pace, but still, walking a katrillion miles at a snails pace is better than sitting in the recliner.  Right?

OK, so I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll repeat it again.  I gave up eating meat a few weeks ago.  I’m not some fanatical animal rights person who’s going to knock you over the head with a club for eating a steak.  Heck, on the camping trip this weekend I thought about having some steak with dinner on Saturday.  When it came down to it it didn’t look appealing to me and I chose my beans and quinoa dinner which look much better to me, but that’s just my choice and where I’m at right now.

So, tonight we were walking through the 4H buildings and I guess the theme of this year’s animal booths was “Meet Your Meat”.

Seriously.

MEET YOUR MEAT?!?!

Are you kidding me?

I don’t know about you but this…

MeetYourMeat

does not make me hungry.

(In case you’re wondering, the adorable blonde is my niece.  The black thing, that’s the 16 month old steak that they introduced her to.)

OK, so that made me REALLY glad I chose baked beans and coleslaw for dinner.  And even more glad that we didn’t find the pig house because there was some pork flavoring in the beans.  Yes, I asked them to look, I was going to get something else if there was bacon in the beans — I ate a piece that was in my salad yesterday and almost gagged.

The chicken house didn’t do anything for me either.

Except make me glad I had a spinach flatbread for lunch.

Wednesday calories:  1,629 (over by 177 but it’s OK, I walked for about four hours this evening so that makes up for like 50 calories or something, right?)

we have something like that at the fair, only its a plastic cow that tells you where all the different cuts of meat come from. i prefer to think that it comes from a package at the store.

Welcome to GAG! I am so glad your in the challenge with us.
Our state fair is too far away for us to go (cause ya know everything is bigger in Texas), and we dont’ do our county fair. I haven’t honestly smelled a funnel cake in years when we had Astroworld and would spend our summers there. I have never heard of buckelberry ice cream, or a buckleberry for that fact.
