First, my Healthy You Challenge Check-In — this morning…210.4.
And now to my weekend because I know you’ve been on pins and needles waiting to hear how it went.
I would have posted Sunday but I was so exhausted I could barely keep my eyes open and my nephew was on my computer waiting for his mom to get off work. Yesterday, was an off day and I didn’t even want to look at my computer when I got home. So, here you go…
On Thursday before my brother left I asked him for directions to the spot we were going. I’ve been there twice but once I was following someone the other time I was in the backseat of the truck with my iPod plugged in. So I vaguely knew where I was going but wasn’t sure. My brother recommended mapping it and said I’d be fine. So I did.
I left Friday morning at 9:30 and figured it would take about two hours to get there. I had enough gas to get there and back but figured it would be smart to fill up since I knew there weren’t any gas stations so if we decided to go anywhere I’d be cutting it close. I also grabbed a coffee and donut (because I’ve come to really want one on Saturday mornings and figure it’s OK to have the treat once a week). Then I hit the road. I drove along and passed what I thought was the offramp I wanted but the directions said something different so I kept going following my mapped directions. I ended up in a small town fairly close to the Montana border. I knew this wasn’t the way I went before but figured I’d follow the directions since it’s what I had. I did just that which landed me on some unmarked dirt fire roads. I had zero cell reception, no clue exactly where I was, and didn’t relish the thought of doing a bunch of turn right, turn lefts on some unmarked roads it middle of nowhere while I was alone. So, I headed back the way I came. I called everyone I could think of that knew where this spot was and didn’t get any responses. So, I called a friend in Texas who I knew was in front of the computer to piece together some directions to get me where I needed to go.
Four hours later I arrived.
Friday I swam in the river with my niece and took my nephew for a ride in the blow-up boat with paddles. Yes, I paddled UP river with him. My sister-in-law’s mom and I went for a walk up the river bank which was fun.
Saturday my sister-in-law’s mom and I took the three kids to town for a bit and on the way back we stopped at a pullout and walked across a suspension bridge (that freaks me out) and hiked up the mountain for a bit. That was fun. When we got back my niece and I went upriver and walked/swam down river to the beach we were hanging out at. Walking in rushing water is harder than you think. We then swam a bit before building a sand castle.
In the afternoon my oldest nephew and I went on a hike up a side dirt road and raced back to camp. (I was pretty excited to be able to run with him and not be out of breathe from it!!
)
It was a very relaxing weekend. I ate well (didn’t track food but mentally went over it each evening and was very happy with my results). I would have liked to have exercised more but am happy with what I did. Truly, it was just very nice to be unplugged for three days.
Unfortunately, when I got back to where I had cell reception my phone went crazy with text messages (I won’t even mention the e-mails). My mom had to take my dad to the ER Friday, he was admitted to the hospital (released yesterday). My grandma was taken to the hospital, she broke her hip on Saturday and had surgery on Sunday. She might be moved to a transitional care facility today. She’s not doing so well, though. So, it’s been an interesting couple of days.
But, I lost 1.4 pounds over the weekend, so I’m a happy camper. ![]()
