What a GREAT Saturday

I got up this morning and went to Target to buy a new fat-butt, cushion seat for my bike.  Thank goodness, because my butt hurts after riding WITH it, I don’t even want to know what it would feel like if I hadn’t.  I took the bike and the new seat to my brothers and he helped me put it on.  Then I took my youngest nephew (who’s 2 1/2) and my niece (who’s 5) on a bike ride.  We rode around the block then decided we’d get some money and ride to the store for an ice cream.  After I got home I tracked how far we’d ridden — 3.5 miles.  I was shocked, I thought maybe 2 miles.  Nope, 3.5.  I was proud of myself but REALLY proud of my niece and nephew – the 2 1/2 year old did a LOT better than the 5 year old.

I brought my other nephew’s (5 1/2 year old) bike home with me because he’s staying here tonight (his mom works the night shift).  When he got here we rode our bikes to dinner then decided to go on another ride and come back for ice cream. We were going to ride around the block but he decided we should ride to see his cousin.  I warned him that it was a long ride but he insisted.  So we did it. We got there with no problem at all — 2.1 miles there.  :)   Unfortunately, when I took the last turn I realized I hadn’t called first to make sure they were home.  They weren’t.

He was a bit tired but the promise of ice cream helped him ride home.  And, we made it.  4.2 miles round trip — not bad (especially considering I did 3.5 this morning).

So, a grand total of 7.7 miles today.  Not a bad start.  :)   I also realized it’s going to be very doable for me to ride to and fom work every day.  :)   (My office is on my brother’s property – so it’s 4.2 miles round trip.)  Bringing the bike upstairs sucks big time so I think I’m going to keep it under the stairs.  It’s kind of hidden and I’ll lock it.  Not the safest spot ever but it’ll encourage me to ride more — by not having to drage the bike up and down the stairs every day.

So, I mentioned in this post that I was looking to replace my DietPower software.  I love the software but found that it’s not cutting it with not being able to log things when I’m out.  Well, one of my blog buddies recommended The Daily Plate on Livestrong.com.  I checked it out last night, requested my refund from DietPower (which they gave me promptly), and bought the Blackberry App that goes with The Daily Plate.  So far, it’s a winner.  I’ll use it for another week or so before I give a review.  I’m going to test the free service for a week and see if I end up wanting to upgrade to the gold service.  (The gold service is reasonably priced, just want to be able to give a thorough review for you and also see if I need to paid service.)  The bberry app was $2.99 — it makes it SO easy to log your food and exercise out and about — TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!  It’s paid for itself today, seriously!

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
