Take a look around

because there are surprises and big news on a few of my pages.  I like to toot my own horn, and last night’s walk paid off.

OK, now I need some help, input, advice, whatever you want to call it.  I’ve been using DietPower for a while now to track my food.  I’ve loved the program and how it’s worked for me. Seriously, I LOVE it.  But, there are a few things that are annoying me about it.  Mainly that I can’t access it if I’m not in front of my computer (or if I forget to send the file to my home computer).  This reason is really why I didn’t track my food this past weekend.  I wasn’t at home.  Yes, there are ways around it but it’s just not cutting it for me.  I need easy, I love geeky, I need something that works for ME.

Here are some of my issues:

  1. I need something that I can view from home and work.
  2. I would like something that I can access remotely (ie on my Blackberry) so I can easily track when I’m out.
  3. I want something that has a pleasant user interface (I don’t want some hokey blue and white spreadsheet type thing.
  4. I want to  be able to see “fancy” reports and stuff (not that I’ll use them but I’m chart/graph person, I like them.

Yes, I know I could use pen and paper, however, pen and paper don’t cut it for me.  If that’s what you use – AWESOME, it just doesn’t work for me.  I need the geeky, techy, fancy stuff.  It keeps me on track.

I don’t mind paying something for it, but don’t want to have to take a withdrawal from my retirement fund to do it.

I want to stick to calorie counting.  Nothing against points or weight watchers, it’s great for many, but again, not for me.  I’ve found what works for me and I’m sticking to it.

I’ve looked up Blackberry apps, I don’t like them very much — if there was ONE that had an online or desktop version that it synced to then I’d be set, but there isn’t one.  All they have are apps that will track calories and fitness.

I would even be happy with something online that I could access via the web from my Bberry but I can’t find one that I like the user interface that will allow me to input from my Bberry.

So, I need HELP.

I’ve found StartYourDiet.com.  I’ve been in contact with them to see if it might work.  We’ll see.  Their user interface is really nice, so far.  I just need to see if I’ll be able to log things via the Bberry. ETA:  Nix that idea…startyourdiet.com has CRAPPY customer service.  If you can’t stand behind your product and know it will sell itself why should I fork over my money to test it out.  Sorry.  They’re off the list.  Back to the drawing board.

I’ll keep you posted.

I too use Dietpower (or used to) and there were parts that I loved and those that I didn’t. I did like how I could write up recipe’s and print them off etc.

But I needed something away from home that was more live so I looked into and purchased Fitday for PC. I have it at home and at work, and I sync it to the web. So I can update where ever I am. It has it’s ups and downs, things I like better in DietPower but it does have pretty good reporting (better than DP) and lots of graphs.
